FAQs

All dogs are subject to a behavioural assessment before they can stay with us to ensure that they are safe to be around our staff and students. We assess each dog on an individual basis and we are happy to discuss any concerns you may have with you.

Behavioural assessments take place during two-hour slots. You leave your dog with us while we complete the assessment. The assessment is to get an overview of how your dog reacts in different situations, such as being groomed or meeting new people, and to give us an idea of what their current training needs are.

Behavioural assessment periods are as follows:
Saturdays and Sundays at 11am-1pm or 1pm-3pm.

Our opening times are as follows:

  • Monday – Friday: 8:30am – 5:30pm
  • Saturday – Sunday: 9am – 5pm

Dogs can be dropped off at the following times:

  • Monday – Friday: 8:30am – 10:30am
  • Saturday – Sunday: 9am – 11am

Dogs can be picked up at the following times:

  • Monday – Friday: 3:30pm – 5:30pm
  • Saturday – Sunday: 3pm – 5pm

All dogs staying with us go for at least two walks a day around our picturesque campus, as well as lots of off-lead playtime in one of our three secure compounds. Walk times vary from twenty minutes to over an hour.

During your stay we advise owners to provide their own food to reduce the risk of dietary issues because of these changes. However, in the event of an overstay we will do our best to provide a suitable diet based on your dog’s requirements.
All fresh, dry or frozen foods provided will be suitably stored within our facilities. Bowls and interactive feeders, such as Kongs, are also provided.

We have beds and soft blankets on site but if you think that your dog would be more comfortable with their own comfy bed or a blanket with their scent on you are more than welcome to bring them.

We have ten individual kennels, each of which has underfloor heating, an indoor sleeping area and an attached outdoor run. Being only a small facility means that we can spend lots of time with your dog one-to-one, ensuring they have the best stay possible with us!

All vaccinations will have to be undertaken 14 days prior to your stay with us. Current required vaccinations include canine distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, leptospirosis, and kennel cough. All dogs will also have to have up to date flea and worming treatments.

Please remember we will require a copy of your dog’s vaccination card on arrival as per our kennel licensing requirements.

For busy periods, i.e. school summer holidays, Christmas/New Year, Easter, etc a non-refundable deposit of £40 is required to secure a booking of seven days or longer. Bookings will only be confirmed on payment of the deposit and receipt of a signed and completed Boarding Contract. No deposit is required for bookings of less than seven days.

Due to the Askham Bryan Dog School and Boarding being a wider aspect of Askham Bryan College, students with us on work placement and in practical sessions will be involved in the day-to-day operation of the kennels (supervised and trained) with trained and experienced staff members.  This will also include, but is not restricted to, aspects of training, walking, health checking etc.
